Exodus 32:1, “And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.”
I asked myself why did apostate Israel, who bore the name “overcomer” and the chosen, desired a sacred bull or a golden calf in place of the One true God?
By the plain witness of Scripture it mentions 1) the delay of Moses coming down 2) the people gathered themselves. It is likely due to impatience and the influence of the mob among them. Thus they were lacking faith in the promise of Moses’ return.
Imagine the hardship of desert crossing and its inconvenience. The stubborn character unchanged. The corporate majority voted to ask Aaron to replace the One true God with a created god of wealth (golden calf) and god of the world (sacred bull worship was common/popular among Egyptians and Canaanite Baal worship). The Israelites were tired of waiting and their desire leads to this event.
It was a supreme apostasy. Shocking but the truth!
Not only did they worship a false god but also on a false day. Look at verse 5, “And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the Lord.” The day they were gathered was on the Sabbath as evident in the context of Exodus 31.
History of God’s People had been repeated in a precisely subtle yet deceptive manner.
The early Adventists were given a solemn message about the Sabbath and the One True God and His Son. They separated from Trinitarian and Sunday keeping churches. But SDA people clamored to their leaders to replace the One True God with a false Trinity god. Back to Egypt. Conformity to Rome. A return to Pagan/Baal worship.
It is just a matter of time when SDA will worship on Sunday, too. Some Adventists who are not satisfied with sermons on Saturday would go to Sunday churches to hear popular preachers and thus worshipping with them. I know few of my members back then would go to Sunday churches to be filled spiritually.
Supreme apostasy and betrayal of sacred trust.
I am calling on all apostate Adventist to turn to God. Repent from all your sins. Seek forgiveness from your sins. Gain victory over sin by faith. Live the righteous life of Christ by faith. And worship the One True God who gave His Only begotten Son for you and for me on His appointed day-the Sabbath.
We are still on the great hour of mercy soon it will close.
