A Maligned God

1 Samuel 15:3 KJV, “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.”

Ellen G. White, The Spirit of Prophecy The Great Controversy Between Christ and His Angels and Satan and His Angels, Vol 1, 1870, Ch 33, p. 362, Steam Press, Battle Creek, MI: “God marked their boastful words against him, and appointed them to be utterly destroyed by the very people they had despised, that all nations might mark the end of that most proud and powerful people.

God proved Saul by intrusting him with the important commission to execute his threatened wrath upon Amalek. But he disobeyed God, and spared the wicked, blasphemous king Agag, whom God had appointed unto death, and spared the
best of the cattle.”

EG White writes in p. 365, “Samuel informed Saul that his rebellion was as the sin of witchcraft. That is, when one commences to travel in the path of rebellion, he yields himself to be controlled by an influence that is in opposition to the will of God. Satan controls the rebellious mind. Those who are thus controlled lose a calm trust in God, and have less and less disposition to yield loving obedience to his will.”

The Israelites demanded a king, like the other nations. They chose Saul, who was an expression of their rejection of God. Saul maligned God by corrupting His Word and venturing into idolatry. This resulted into blatant disobedience, stupendous perplexity, ignominious death for Saul, whose name is synonymous with iniquity.

1 Samuel 15:22-23 KJV, “And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.”

The world has rejected and maligned God. This is obvious and not surprising. What is remarkable is His own people rejecting Him. By not obeying His commands and complaining every time trial is permitted.

God has a righteous reason for commanding such destruction. To preserve truth and a nation that fear Him. That is hating sin and trusting His Word.

Would you rather want to live under the tyranny of man or the righteous dictates of the Only True God and His Son? I chose the latter. I trust God.

Like the Israelites of Old, the Lord’s people of today rejected Him by replacing Him with triune gods and philosophical sophistries. They demanded new ways of thinking and innovations. Thus, they repeated Israel’s idolatry and will suffer the wrath of judgment. God’s people must learn and come out of error. Return to the straight path of truth. This is the call.

Psalm 46:10 KJV, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Sincerely in the Blessed Hope.
