Believers Should Plan to Leave Cities as the Way Opens
More and more, as time advances, our people will have to leave the cities. For years we have been instructed that our brethren and sisters, and especially families with children, should plan to leave the cities as the way opens before them to do so. Many will have to labor earnestly to help open the way. But until it is possible for them to leave, so long as they remain, they should be most active in doing missionary work, however limited their sphere of influence may be. As they yield their talents and their all to God to be used as he may direct; as they live out their consecration by engaging in practical missionary work wherever opportunity affords, God will bless them with wisdom and discretion, and in his own way and time he will make it possible for them to place themselves where they will not be surrounded constantly with the contaminating influences of modern city life.–Review and Herald, September 27, 1906.
Adventists are people who are waiting for the second coming of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as promised in the Bible. The Lord’s messenger, Ellen G. White, wrote the statement above in 1906 to encouraged the believers as where to be in time before the great day of reckoning happens. The same God who used the Biblical prophets to warn people of long past inspired us today through the gift of this prophecy to heed this counsel. Today is the day to implement plans, execute preparations, and intensify preoccupations toward self-sustainance. Adventists are not to depend on worldly governments or assistance from unbelievers. They must heed the warnings and admonitions on what to do and how to do it from godly messengers like Ellen G. White.
Surely, city life now is contaminated with crimes, chaos, and culture that is anti-Adventist and anti-Bible. But Adventists need to work with people to spread the message of urgency.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon Adventists to be wise in their decision making and missionary endeavors that God will be glorified and many souls will be saved.
